Some privates schools are secretly reopening classes for their students in some parts of Lagos state – Finding revealed the schools continue to operate despite the federal government’s closure due to coronavirus crisis – Classes and other school facilities are being opened for students who have been mandated to come for learning in mufti amid Covid-19 scare.
Much to the chagrin of his acclaimed political might and surprise of public onlookers who are following the twist and turn of political power show in Edo, Governor Godwin Obaseki’s towering ambition was cornered and brought down to drain by “the power that be” in the ruling party.
The chairman of the screening committee, Jonathan Ayuba, hinged his disqualification on the fact that he was not fit to partake in the party’s primary where the party will choose its standard-bearer for the upcoming governorship election in the state.
Among other reason, the screening committee said that Obaseki presented the Higher School Certificate (HSC) which the panel said was defective. The committee also added that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate Obaseki presented did not have his name written properly. But before the rift between him and his former political godfather became sour and more disordered, why was he not saved?
Tinubu sided Oshiomhole and left Obaseki to his fate.
On Sunday, May 31, nine governors under the aegis of Progressives Governors’s Forum (PGF) led by Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state visited Tinubu in state house in Marina Lagos to garner his support for embattled Obaseki. Tinubu, however, reportedly told the governors that APC would adopt direct primary election which would help democracy and promote fairness in the party.
This established that Tinubu is on the side of Oshiomhole, the national party chairman of the ruling party.
It would be recalled that when the Obaseki vs Oshiomhole fight became more pronounced, the Edo governor put his might into a run to remove his former boss as the APC chair. Legit.ng reported that APC crisis hit the crescendo as some ministers in President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet from the south-south region met with Governor Godwin Obaseki to finalise Oshiomhiole’s removal. Tinubu later came in to rescue the then embattled chairman and posited that Oshiomhole would stay because he has been “a tireless campaigner and mobilizer for the party.”
The former Lagos governor said it would be an act of ingratitude for Oshiomhole to be removed, clearing the specks of dust and political upheaval raised by Oshiomhole’s then imminent removal. The former Edo governor survived the heat but his wings were getting clippled by Obaseki who removed the governor’s loyalists from the front view of Edo politics. This also led to the suspension of state lawmakers numbering 14 who were said to be Oshiomole’s loyalists.
