Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State was recently honoured by the people of the ancient Aguleri Kingdom in a civic reception where he was conferred with the traditional title of “Akpokuodike“.
The reception which was preceded by an inter-denominational service officiated by the Episcopal Vicar of Aguleri Catholic region, Very Rev Fr Christopher Odina, witnessed performances by different cultural groups such as the Egbeneoba hunters and Iyom Aguleri, among others.
The Governor, was presented with a staff of reverence and authority by the oldest man in Aguleri, Chief Emmanuel Nwobu aged 112 years. After being adorned in the symbolic Ashoke, Odu enyi, Nza, and Aka bead, depicting royalty and sovereignty, Chief Obiano later moved round the various stands in the arena to acknowledge greetings from the cheering crowd.
Speaking after the investiture, Obiano described the Aguleri community as an ancient Igbo kingdom, which has been at the vanguard of propagating positive Igbo culture and traditions, saying this had been the totality of the people’s way of life.
He observed that Ndigbo were blessed with very rich cultural heritage and folklore, whose various aspects were responsible for the industry and ingenuity for which the Igbo people are known.
Obiano expressed overwhelming joy at the honour done him by his people and promised not to disappoint them. He assured that his government will continue to pursue programmes that will have positive bearing on the generality of Ndi Anambra.
Earlier, the traditional ruler of the community, Eze Christopher Idigo, prayed for long life and wisdom upon the governor in the onerous task of administering the affairs of the state.
In a message during the inter-denominational service, the Anglican Bishop of Afikpo Diocese, the Right Reverend Paul Udogu, likened Governor Obiano’s ascension to office to the biblical story of the story of King David whom God chose to save the children of Israel, noting that his achievements in one year had distinguished the governor in terms of purposeful leadership.
In his address, the president-general of the community, Chief Mike Ejoor, explained that the reception was to appreciate the Governor’s numerous exploits that have brought honour to Aguleri community as well as to reassure him of his people’s support.
In a related development, Governor Obiano maintained that strengthening the key enablers of his administration’s four pillars of development remains critical in the achievement of his transformation vision for the state. Obiano stated this at the Immaculate Heart Novitiate facility Nkpor, when he attended an Easter mass at the Madonna Renewal Centre of the facility.
The Governor was accompanied to the event by his wife, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano and other top government officials said his administration has made remarkable progress in developing the enablers of his transformation agenda such as education, health, security, and tourism, and other areas whose development have the potential to positively propel the realization of his administration’s development efforts. He said his government has attracted to Anambra state partnership funding for projects and ventures to the tune of over 2.2billon US dollar.
Earlier, the Chaplain of the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, Rev Fr John Manata, who officiated the holy mass, observed that the Obiano administration , through its well thought out development plan, has set the state on a steady cause towards development and called on Ndi Anambra to support the governor with their votes during the State House of Assembly elections.
